Couture worked at the Watson Lake Trading Post and was a founder and partner in the Yukon Self-Serve General Store. After that he held several positions in the municipal and territorial governments in Watson Lake, Faro, and Whitehorse. He was appointed as one of the first two Labour Standard Officers in the territory. In 2007, he was Sergeant-At-Arms in the Yukon Legislative Assembly. Couture volunteers at the Sacred Heart Parish, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, Whitehorse Curling Club, Yukon Housing Corp, and various other organizations.
