 Chris Sorg was born in Tearneck, New Jersey, the oldest of five children. He attended business school in Lynchburg, Virginia and later Tampa, Florida. After finishing university, he worked at the family business, Sorg Printing, in Manhattan, New York. In June 1979, the vehicle Chris was driving to Alaska broke down at Moose Creek Lodge in the Yukon. He returned to the lodge in the fall to hunt. In time, he received a loan from his father and he and his wife Nancy purchased the lodge. They sold it in 1987, and moved to Dawson where they opened a restaurant/bakery called “Nancy’s.” Chris first worked at Dawson’s Maximillians Gold Rush Emporium and then bought the business.((“Christopher Bruce Sorg.” //The Whitehorse Star// (Whitehorse), 16 September 2022.)) Chris donated his time to the community, including a stint as president of the Dawson City Museum and Historical Society.

They purchased several other businesses as well including Murdoch’s Gem Shop and the Midnight Sun Emporium, and Chris became known as the unofficial mayor of Main Street. He was always thinking up ideas for improving downtown Whitehorse.
