In 1929, he became a member of the first training class of the Church Army in Canada. He served as a Church Army officer until WWII, when he joined the RCAF Medical Corps. He spent much of the war in Goose BayLabrador and was discharged in 1945 with the rank of Sergeant. After the war, he entered St. Chad's College in Regina and then was ordained an Anglican deacon for the Diocese of Qu'Appelle. In 1948he was sent to Wawota where he was priested in 1949 and continued as the rector until 1952 when he became the rector at Weyburn.((Old Log Church Museum, files.))
