Janet Dickson met Gordon Dickson in Vancouver, and they married before moving to the Yukon in 1967. Gordon was a prospector, and Janet soon grew to enjoy it as well.((Michael Gates, //Dublin Gulch: A History of the Eagle Gold Mine.// Lost Moose, 2020: 63-64.)) After Gordon passed away in 1993, Janet held hundreds of claims at Mount Nansen and Dublin Gulch and she made options and royalty agreements with mining companies and a junior exploration company.((Jane Gaffin, “Jan Dickson: First Woman Honoured as Prospector of the Year.” Yukon Prospectors’ Association, 2024 website: jan_dickson.pdf (yukonprospectors.ca) )) Janet continued to identify rich mineral claims and she gained an impressive record of staking and maintaining the claims, and then driving a hard bargain with exploration companies. In 1996, she was the first woman to receive the Yukon Prospectors’ Association (YPA) Prospector of the Year Award.((“In Memorial: Yukon Mining Patriarch Janet Dickson.” //Yukon News// (Whitehorse), 2 February 2024.))
