Ronald Ferris was elected the 9th Bishop of the Yukon in 1980. He moved to Whitehorse with his wife Jan and their five children in 1981. In 2004, Ferris had served as an Anglican bishop for twenty-three years and worked in all parts of Canada. Ferris became the Bishop of Algoma in 1995 and left the Anglican Church of Canada in September 2008. He disapproved of the pro-homosexuality stance taken by some dioceses of the Anglican Church.
