Art Joe (b. 1952)

Art Joe was born at Aishihik to parents Jenny Isaac and Jimmy Joe.((“Dän Ghàájenamán Dáta: Our people’s art, paintings, drawings and carvings.” DaKu Cultural Centre, nd.)) His grandparents were Copper Chief (Ahtna from Copper River, Alaska) and Ná-Thyá-Thée-a’ (Northern Tutchone from Fort Selkirk) who lived in the Generc and White rivers at Kletsan Hill.((Kluane First Nation, //Kluane Lake Country People Speak Strong,// Figure 1 Publishing Inc., 2023: 47.))
	
Art Joe went to the Catholic Lower Post Mission School when he was five or six where he spent ten years before he was transferred to the Coudert Indian Residential School in Whitehorse for another two years. He started drawing when he was in Lower Post and he created the stage backdrop for the yearly Christmas play. He became serious about his art in the 1980s and since then his art is in many private and institutional collections in the Yukon.
