Alonzo Agee Alonzo and his wife Mattie (Madie) Agee came to the Yukon from Crawford, Colorado and arrived in October 1899. Three black men, Alonzo, his son Roy George, and his brother Harry, all worked as barbers at the Colorado Hotel in Dawson. Alonzo also mined on Mills Creek, Black Hills, and Barker Creek. Alonzo and Mattie had three children, Roy George, Sam, and Alonzo Jr.((Ed and Star Jones, “Blacks in Yukon, 1897 - 2010.” Santa Fe, New Mexico. Unpublished manuscript, June 2010.)) Alonzo Jr. (age fifteen) was living with his mother Mattie (age forty-eight) in Dawson in 1911. They are the only two Agees listed as living in the Yukon that year.((1911 Canadian Census))
