[Richard Frederick] Appleyard The first building at the junction of the Road to the Watson Lake Airport and the Alaska Highway was built by a man named Appleyard. This location was called The Wye because of the shape of the roads. The building was a trading post with room upstairs.((“The Town of Watson Lake.” //The Yukoner Magazine,// Issue No. 12, July 1999: 12.)) It was the only building at The Wye for four or five years, until the Watson Lake Motors was built across the road about 1948.((Telephone interview by Sally Robinson with Archie Lang, 15 May 2001.)) Appleyard might be Richard Frederick Appleyard who died in Whitehorse in August 1949.
