Robert “Bob” Adair. (1936 - 2018)

Bob Adair was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba.((“Robert Adair.” //Yukon News// (Whitehorse), 10 October 2018.)) He arrived in the Yukon with his mother and younger brother in 1949. He first lived in Keno with his parents and ferried workers up from the mines to the mill or to play poker. At age seventeen he was the youngest taxi driver in Canada according to the Village of Mayo. He moved to Mayo in 1951 where he continued to drive, hauling gravel or ore, and doing odd jobs for United Keno Hill Mines. In 1971, he took over the Mayo Taxi and Bus Service. At age seventy-two, Bob Adair still hauled the mail to Keno three times a week and drove the Mayo school bus route. Driving taxi was never a big money maker but he enjoyed meeting and talking to people. In 2009, Adair was inducted into the Yukon Transportation Hall of Fame as Transportation Person of the Year.
