Eddie Arey (b. 1949) Eddie Arey is Inupiat, born at Whitefish Station near Herschel Island. Eddie learned Arctic sports in Aklavik and Inuvik and began coaching in 1980. He coached for fourteen years, attended eight Arctic Winter Games as an athlete and a coach, and received over forty medals. Arey attended the Northern Games in Inuvik, McPherson and Aklavik; the World Eskimo Olympics; the 1990 North American Indigenous Games in Edmonton; and the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria. Arctic Sports developed throughout the Yukon due to Arey's hard work and dedication.
