Bruce Wesley Baker (1922 – 2016) Bruce Baker was born in Kindersley, Saskatchewan. He was opposed to war and spent the beginning of WWII in a conscientious objectors' camp. He volunteered as a non-combatant medic and served in France and stayed in France for two years at the end of the war. He came to the Yukon in 1949 and worked for the Water Survey of Canada, Tulsequah Chief Mine, and drove truck for United Keno Hill. He prospected for silver. He returned to Saskatchewan in 1957 and married Freda Sitter. They lived in Uranium City until 1961 when they moved to Whitehorse. Bruce worked as an operator on the Blanchard River pump station for the Haines to Fairbanks pipeline. During his prospecting years he was a partner in Pacific Giant Steel Ore and Yukon Oil and Gas Ltd. The final 25 years of his working career were spent as a stationary operator for NCPC at the Whitehorse and Aishihik dams. In retirement, Bruce and Freda ran Baker's B&B and travelled.((//Yukon News// (Whitehorse), 23 November 2016.))
