Byer Byer’s Wood Camp was the largest on the upper Yukon River in the 1940s. It was located just a few kilometres below Big Salmon. A telephone line crossed the river to tap into the main line. When Byer died, the camp was taken over by Erickson, one of Byer’s men. It was next owned by Olof Wickstrom and then Les Vickner. They all expanded the wood lot and by the end, the wood truck was driving some twenty [twelve?] miles from the riverboat landing to supply the camp.((Mike Rourke, //Yukon River: Marsh Lake to Dawson City.// Houston B.C.: Rivers North Publications, 1997: 90-91.))
