Francis George “Frank” Berton (b. 1876) Frank Berton was born and raised in the Maritimes and received a degree in civil engineering from the University of New Brunswick. He came to the Yukon with gold fever and received a letter from Queen’s University while he was enroute, offering him a teaching position. Frank Berton was a mining recorder in Dawson off and on for more than two decades with absences overseas in the First World War and a stint in Whitehorse.( (Michael Gates, “Mining recorders represent 125 years of history in Yukon.” ??Yukon News// (Whitehorse), 23 May 2008.)) He was a civil engineer in the Gold Office in Dawson when he enlisted to serve in the First world.((Library and Archives Canada, Attestation paper, WWI #2004507. 5 October 1916 at Dawson.)) A meeting was held in Dawson on 18 May 1927 to affiliate the War Veterans Dawson Club with the Canadian Legion. Frank G.
