John Bilton John Bilton served twenty years with the Canadian Army at Wainwright Training Base and several years in Germany. His sister, Evelyn Dubois, was living in Dawson. Around 1971, after he retired from the military, Bilton and his wife Joan with their three children, Shelly, Mark and Wendy, arrived in Dawson. John joined the team of Dubois, Carr, and Warnsby when they started the D.C.W. Trading Company. He joined the local Royal Canadian Legion and soon became their treasurer. Bilton served ten years as Justice of the Peace. The family bought the J&J Emporium when Pretoria Butterworth sold it in September 1977. After Joan Bilton died, John became the Dawson librarian for three years at the new community library and then retired in mid-May 1993.
