John Paul Bierlmeier (1940 - 2010) John Paul Bierlmeier was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan and was a fraternal twin to brother Jim. John helped on the family farm and schooled at Chelan and Porcupine Plain. He began his career as a miner in Flin Flon, Manitoba for Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting. He left in 1962 and worked for the elevator industry in Daphne, Saskatchewan. He moved to Dawson in 1969 and worked at Clinton Creek. When the mine shut down in 1974, John worked for the Yukon Government until he started work for a miner in the Sixtymile area. John worked as a Maintenance Supervisor for the Dawson Indian Band until 1994 and then worked for fifteen years at the Dawson Hardware Store before he retired. He met Bertha McLeod in 1971, and they travelled to many places together including Disneyland, Palm Springs, Hawaii, and across the United States, as well as visits to family in British Columbia and Saskatchewan. After thirty years together, John and Bertha were married in 2003. Soon after, Bertha was diagnosed with bone and lung cancer and she passed in 2005. In 2009, John was diagnosed with bone and lung cancer as well. He went for treatment in Victoria where could visit his brothers Jim (Victoria) and Bill (Vancouver). John enjoyed hunting and gardening and he and Bertha loved making perogies and going for long drives. John was a very generous person, and his friends and family were honoured to know him.
