Dorothy Elizabeth Crayford, nee Peake (1916 – 2010) Dorothy Peake was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan to Frank and Nellie Peake. She moved to Victoria and worked for many years in the insurance business. She met her husband, Lawrence, at the Crystal Gardens when attending a dance for soldiers.(("Dorothy Elizabeth Crayford." //Whitehorse Star// (Whitehorse), 20 August 2010.)) Lawrence’s home was in Dawson.((//Pioneer Women of the Yukon Cookbook,// Dawson City, 2011: 125.)) Lawrence and Dorothy were married in Dawson on August 4, 1950. Dorothy worked as a secretary/librarian at the Robert Service School until her retirement in 1981. In 1963, she worked with Mary Gartside, the principal of the Dawson Elementary-High School, as a secretary and part-time librarian.
