Gillian Campbell Gillian Campbell arrived in Canada from England in 1966 and came to the attention of Fran Dowie in Vancouver. Dowie was looking for talent for the recently rebuilt Palace Grand Theatre in Dawson. Gillian went north with her sons to become Klondike Kate in the Follies in 1967. She lived that summer in the building that now houses Klondike Kate's Restaurant. She has kept the stage name ever since. She met him the day she arrived at the Dawson airport with two little babies in her arms. In 1970, Gillian was back in Dawson cooking and cleaning for sixteen people during the day and playing Klondike Kate at night. She took the role to Whitehorse and headlined the Frantic Follies before returning to Dawson to play Diamond Tooth Gertie at the casino. In 1976, she stopped coming to the Yukon for long gigs but continued her act as a regular feature at the Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous for years. She spent two seasons in Skagway and played the cruise ships for Holland America. She has played for royalty including Princess Margaret, Prince Charles and Lady Diana, and Princess Margarite of the Netherlands. In her long career, she has played in Holland, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, and all over the United States.
