George Washington Cassidy (1884 - 1917) George Cassidy was born in Bethlehem, New Hampshire. He was a miner prior to enlisting with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in Victoria, British Columbia in June 1916 and serving with the Canadian Army during the First World War. He was originally part of the Yukon Infantry Company and went oversees with the 231st Battalion in April 1917. In England, he transferred to the 24th Reserve Battalion and crossed to France in May 1917 where he joined the 72nd Battalion in the field. George Cassidy died during the battle for Passchendaele Ridge. He was awarded the British War Medal and Allied Victory Medal. His name is listed on the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing in Ypres, Belgium.((D.
