Leona Commons (b. 1970) Leona Commons’s family established the Riverside Grocery, at the corner of Third and Lowe streets, in the mid-1950s. It was originally called the Co-Op. Leona started working in the store when she was twelve and she was twenty when she bought it from her family in 1982. She and husband Pat run the independent grocery and it has a reputation of having everything - if you can find it. In 2014, Riverside had a staff of eleven, four of them full-time having worked there between three and twenty years.((Pavlina Sudrich, "The store that sells a little bit of everything.” //Yukon News// (Whitehorse), 19 November 2014.)) The store was Whitehorse’s first 24-hour business. Three generations have worked in the store.((Riverside Grocery, 2020 website: https://www.riversidegrocery.ca/about-us.))
