Marjorie Allison “Marnie” Drury, nee Thompson (1921 - 2011) Marnie Drury was born in Edmonton to Ruth Ada Jane (Long) and Joel Foster Thompson. She could have been a concert pianist but, after graduating from high school, she attended Royal Alexandra Hospital to become a nurse in 1944. She worked in Edmonton and Vancouver before moving to Whitehorse General Hospital. She met Bill Drury and they were married in 1947 in Edmonton. They made their home in Whitehorse and raised daughter Shirley and son Bill.((Marnie Drury, //Yukon News// (Whitehorse), 10 June 2011.)) Marnie enjoyed singing with the Coral Society in the 1950s and 1960s and worked on the Altar Guild at Christ Church Cathedral for many years. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed a good game of five card draw as well. Freighter travel became a source of enjoyment for Marnie and Bill, and they travelled to many exotic places around the world. They owned a home in Rancho Mirage, California where they spent the winters. They moved to Sechelt in the early 2000s. Marnie started developing Alzheimer's in 2003 and moved into Cedar Cottage at Christiansen Village in 2006.
