William Dinning (1872 – 1917) William Dinning was born in Maybole, Ayrshire, Scotland. He attended the Carrick Academy and then immigrated to Canada. He was working as a marine engine fitter in Dawson in September 1916 when he enlisted for service in the First World War. He was posted to the 7th Reserve Battalion and transferred to the 17th Machine Gun Company in March 1917. He landed in France in June and joined Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in August. He was wounded during the Battle of Passchendaele and died of his wounds. He was awarded the British War Medal and Allied Victory Medal.
