Fred Field (d.1903) Fred Field was one of the first men to prospect in the Mayo region. He found prospects on Field Creek and staked the first claims there. He was reported lost in February 1903 when he did not return from a hunting trip. His body and all his belongings were found on a raft on the Stewart River near Lansing Creek in May 1903.
