Doris Gates (1937 – 2023) Doris Gates was born in Vancouver to parents Thomas and Deborah Robinson. She married Charles (Chuck) Gibson and they had three children (Vincent, Kent, and Betty) before they divorced. Doris moved to the Yukon [in the late 1960s] and worked as a hotel maid in the daytime while working as Diamond Tooth Gerties at night.((“Doris Gibson.” //Yukon News// (Whitehorse), 21 July 2023.)) Doris leased the Bonanza Hotel in Dawson in mid-January 1967 from Sid Carr. She met Howie Gates who was working on the opening of the Clinton Creek mine, and they married in 1967. They lived in Dawson, Clinton Creek, Faro, and Whitehorse before retiring to Clinton, British Columbia and then finally moving to Winnipeg, Manitoba to be closer to family.
