Kurt Gantner (1962 – 2011) Kurt Gantner moved to Tagish in 2006 with his wife Jutta after decades as a fire fighter in Germany. They ran the local motel, store, and restaurant and Kurt was the secretary of the local advisory council and the community's postmaster. He became the chief of the Tagish Volunteer Fire Department around 2007 and trained his team of thirteen to respond to any emergency. Gantner died on his way to the scene of a house fire. He was found in the department's first responder truck which had gone off the road but didn't appear to have been in an accident.(("Fire chief, community mainstay mourned." //Whitehorse Star,// August 25, 2011.))
