A. P. Hawes 	
	
A.P. Hawes was a veterinarian for the White Pass & Yukon Route (WP&YR) and inspector for the Department of Agriculture. He bought the historic Smith House on Third Avenue in Whitehorse in 1909.((“Smith House.” Yukon Register of Historic Places, Yukon Government, 2019 website: http://register.yukonhistoricplaces.ca/PlaceDetail/603/11056)) Hawes looked after the company’s 300 horses and also ran an office out of his house to care for community pets.(("Whitehorse Heritage Buildings: A Walking Tour of Yukon's Capitol."
