A. Halkett A. Halkett was a government engineer visited Whitehorse and in May 1927, he inspected reefs in the Yukon River with a focused look at removing the one at Rink Rapids where the sternwheeler //Dawson// hit it in the fall of 1925. He expected to be joined in his survey by J.P. Forde, the district government engineer.((//Whitehorse Star// (Whitehorse), 20 May 1927.)) In February 1928, the //Whitehorse Star// expressed approval for the businesslike way in which the Dominion Department of Public Works was endeavouring to clear the channels at Five Finger and Rink Rapids.((//Whitehorse Star// (Whitehorse), 3 February 1928.)) Halkett and Forde returned in July 1928 to inspect the work at both rapids and then travel on to Glacier Bay where the glacier was retreating and Canada might be able to have a port in the future.((//Whitehorse Star// (Whitehorse), 27 July 1928.))
