Joe Jacquot (1927 - 1989) Joe Jacquot was born in Burwash Landing to parents Ruth and Eugene Jacquot. Joe was a prominent Yukon politician and leader. He bought his family's outfitting business and ran it for fifteen years.((Yukon Historic Sites, YHSI, Jacquot House files.)) He was active in hunting, trapping, and fishing. He was the head of the Yukon Association of non-Status Indians (YANSI) and joined Elijah Smith in presenting "Together Today for Our Children Tomorrow" to the federal government. Jacquot and Smith merged YANSI with the Yukon Native Brotherhood to form the Council for Yukon Indians (CYI), one of the few organizations in Canada to represent both status and non-status Indians. He played an active role in land claim negotiations with the federal government in the last fifteen years of his life. Joe was honoured by Indian Affairs Minister Pierre Cadieux during the summer signing of the land claim Framework Agreement. The Yukon Trapper's Assoc. added that he worked very hard for the betterment of trappers.((Brian Eaton. "Joe Jacquot: 'He wanted to help'." //Dannzha,// Oct/Nov 1898: 42-3.))
