Shushanna Joe was Upper Tanana.((Rolfe G. Buzzell and Charles E. Holmes. "Cultural Resource Evaluation of the Tanana River Bridge (No. 505), Mile 1303.3, Alaska Highway (Project No. 61637)." He led Billy James to the site of the 1913 Chisana gold discovery. He did not profit in the stampede but remained in the area mining on claim Nos. 3B and 3 in the late 1930s.
