J. Harmon Kaskey J. Harmon Kaskey was a newspaperman on the //City of Seattle// as it steamed north to Seattle in February 1899. He listened as Captain Connell suggested the foundation of a social brotherhood of the north and was then prominent in forming the bylaws and rules of order for the Arctic Brotherhood. J. Weston Coyne composed a ritual for the group that included "If a brother falls, gently lift him up. If he fails, imbue him with fortitude." Thirty-one camps were established in Alaska, Yukon, NWT, and British Columbia north of the 54th parallel. The order flourished for about fifteen years and was supported by the United States president Roosevelt.
