Beat Ledergerber (1932 – 2025) Beat Ledergerber was born and raised in northeast Switzerland and immigrated to Canada in 1953. He spent eight years working various jobs across Canada and finishing his mechanics apprenticeship in Alberta. Earle Brooks, who owned a sawmill in Beaver Creek at Mile 1202, called him and hired him over the phone. Beat eventually purchased Brooke’s sawmill and also purchased and expanded Beaver Motors mechanics shop and towing service. Over the years, Beat played many roles in Beaver Creek being Yukon Electric’s stand-by operator, coroner, fire chief, justice of the peace (longest presiding in the territory) and medivac pilot in his plane Matilda. In 1982, Beat became the chief engineer for Westmark Inn Beaver Creek and chief pilot for Holland America in Yukon and Alaska. When Holland America closed their Beaver Creek Hotel, Beat and his wife bought the property and ran it for six seasons. ((“Beat Ledergerber.” //Yukon News// (Whitehorse), 2 May 2025.))
