Marlene Esther LaBar (1953 – 2022) Marly Labar was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her family moved to Whitehorse in 1958, and Marlene excelled at volleyball and baseball in her youth. After graduation Marlene worked at General Enterprises and Kilrich Industries and became one of the first female carpenters in Whitehorse. She joined the family business, LeRoy Industries, in 1973 and worked as a carpenter with her father Roy and brother Brian. In the 1980s, they bought a shop at McCrae and started McCrae Woodwork which became known for its exceptional cabinetry. The shop was in full production until 2013 when it was sold. Brian and Marlene worked together until her shop was built at Army Beach and then she became busy with custom work in the Marsh Lake area.
