Kate Merriman Reverend Kate Merriman and Reverend Dorothy Thorpe were the first two women to be ordained to the Anglican priesthood in the Yukon in 1983.((Manuscript "Summery of the Anglican Church in Yukon" by Archdeacon Allan Haldenby of Dawson in 1957 and updated by Lee Sax and Bishop Ronald Ferris in 1991.)) Rev. Merriman worked in the Diocese of Toronto, as a hostel worker at the Fred Victor Centre, a parish priest in the Yukon, a chaplain at Trinity College, a Field Education Director at Huron College, and a parish priest in the city of Toronto. She was made a Canon of the Diocese of Toronto in 2007 in recognition of her work in the areas of sexual misconduct and affordable housing. In 2008, she received the Davenport Community Builders Award for her work in affordable housing. She and Ellen M.
