Gary McRobb (b. 1956) Gary McRobb was born in New Westminster, British Columbia. He represented the Kluane Electoral district in the Yukon New Democratic Party from 1996 to 2006. He was mainly interested in protecting Aishihik Lake from further hydroelectric projects. He was not appointed to cabinet proper but was cabinet commissioner for Energy, Mines and Resources in the McDonald administration. He was also caucus critic for several departments. McRobb and Eric Fairclough were expelled from the New Democratic caucus when leader Todd Hardy discovered they were considering quitting the NDP and were canvasing constituents about their faith in the leadership. Fairclough and McRobb joined the Liberal caucus and Hardy’s New Democrats were reduced to third party status while the Yukon Liberals became the Official Opposition. The NDP tabled legislation to prevent MLAs from crossing the floor without an ensuing election but the legislation was never adopted. Both MLAs were elected as Liberals in the 2006 election and the party retained its Opposition status. McRobb served as the Opposition House Leader as well as the critic for two departments and two corporations. He was outspoken about the government’s secret efforts to privatize Yukon Energy. He developed a reputation as a political attack dog. McRobb retired before the 2011 election.((“Gary McRobb.” //Wikipedia,// 2020 website: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_McRobb.))
