Jack McMillan Jack Macmillan was a stage driver for White Pass & Yukon Route (WP&YR). In the winter of 1901-02, he made a return trip between Whitehorse and Dawson in only eight days and two hours. This was the fastest round trip to date on record. The WP&YR contract only called for a five-day service. The road was in good shape in April 1902 and one or more stages were leaving and arriving in Whitehorse almost daily. A single trip usually took four and a half to five days unless the weather was bad. Most the traffic is on WP&YR stages as the independent competition’s less comfortable conveyances could take a week or ten days more. The extra time more than compensated for the difference in fare.((“A Record Breaker.” //The White Horse Star// (Whitehorse), 9 April 1902 reprinted in //The Whitehorse Star// (Whitehorse), 31 July 2012.))
