Harold Arthur E. Newton (1891 - 1916) Harold Arthur E. Newton was born in Nottingham, England. He served in the Officers’ Training Corp for three months before immigrating to Canada.((D. He was employed in Whitehorse as a fur trader in 1914 when he enlisted to serve in the First World War.((WWI Reg. #76105. November 9, 1914 in Vancouver. Attestation Paper, Library and Archives Canada)) Newton fought in several major battles in France and Belgium before he was killed in a 1916 bombardment at the St. Eloi craters. Lance Captain Newton was awarded the 1914-1915 Star, British Military Medal and Allied Victory Medal. His name is listed on the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing in Ypres, Belgium.((D.
