Roy “Red” Piercy Red Piercy was a Canadian Armed Forced pilot during the Second World War. He was one of only six Canadians decorated for flying the “Hump,” a supply route that stretched from Indian to China over Japanese-occupied Burma. He bequeathed his cabin north of the Whitehorse shipyards to the Royal Canadian Legion and it was later purchased by John Hatch, an advocate for preserving the historic neighbourhood. The area had a number of unorganized houses occupied by squatters, many of whom worked seasonally in the shipyards. Piercy’s cabin, now called Pioneer Hotel Two, is one of the last buildings remaining from a large and character-filled Whitehorse community.((“Red (Roy) Piercy Cabin.” Yukon Historical & Museums Association website: https://www.heritageyukon.ca/attractions/historical-buildings/red-roy-piercy-cabin))
