William Portlock (1876 – 1924) William Portlock was born in Preston, England and arrived in Canada in 1898. He settled in the Mayo area and mined on Highet Creek, Dublin Gulch, and Haggart Creek with the Abbott brothers. He and Alice Stevenson were married in Dawson in 1914. She was a trained seamstress. Their son, Thomas William Portlock (1915 – 1976) was born in Dawson. The family lived in Haggart Creek until William took ill in 1922 and then they moved into Mayo. Alice cooked at the Mayo hospital and was a seamstress until William died. She and Frant Cantin were married in 1931 in Vancouver where Alice was living.((Linda E.T. MacDonald and Lynette R.
