George Vail Raymond (1896 – 1918) George Raymond was born in Digby, Nova Scotia. His family moved to Whitehorse when he was young.((D. October 2, 1916 in Dawson. Attestation Paper, Library and Archives Canada.)) Raymond joined the Yukon Infantry, was transferred to the 17th Canadian Machine Gun Company, then the No. 1 Cadet Wing, Royal Flying Corps. He was posted to the 73rd Squadron, RFC and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. George Raymond died in 1918 when his Sopwith Camel stalled five minutes after take-off. He is buried in Coulommiers Communal Cemetery in Sein-et-Marne, France. Mount Raymond, southeast of Old Crow, was named in his honour in June 1973.((D.
