John Vandermeer John Vandermeer is a citizen of the White River First Nation. His work history includes time as a technician for Northwestel and president and full-time business manager of IBEW Local 1574. He also runs a successful business restoring classic vehicles. Vandermeer was a councillor for the White River First Nation and in 2025 he sat on the Yukon Police Council and was president of the First Nation's development corporation Copper Niisüü Limited Partnership. The Partnership had recently launched a solar power installation in Beaver Creek to shift the community from diesel dependance. In August 2025, John Vandermeer announced his intention to seek nomination as the Yukon NDP candidate for the district of Kluane. He hopes to improve healthcare and services in the area. Vandermeer will be running against Wade Istchenko, MLA for Kluane.
