Mariah helped her father on his trap line and cutting wood for the sternwheelers. She was a good hunter and got her first moose at age thirteen. She later became the principal hunter in the family when her husband George Van Bibber lost the use of one of his arms during the 1953 polio epidemic. Maria was the community health representative in Pelly Crossing and, after her retirement, she became the summer interpretive guide at Fort Selkirk. Even in her eighties, she like to go hunting with her sister Betty Joe. Mariah loved to read and travel. She was an avid curler, lobbied hard to get a curling rink at Pelly, and watched all the tournaments on television. She is remembered for her sense of humour, grace, wisdom, and generosity of spirit. Mariah is survived by daughter Joanne (Chris), Jean (Graham), and Marilyn (Paul).((“Maria Van Bibber.” //Yukon News// (Whitehorse), 9 February 2019.))
