James H. Walker (1873 – 1974) James Walker was born in New Orleans and educated in Texas. He first went to Alaska for his health and was there for the gold rush. He bought stray cats in Seattle for fifty cents each and sold them to Klondike dance hall girls for $300. He was known as he Cat Man of the Yukon." Walker settled in the Petersburg and Wrangell areas and operated the Fort Wrangell Hotel. He had jewellery stores in both places and drugstores in Petersburg.((James H.
