John J. “Woody” Wood John Wood started his career with the Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) in 1934 as an indentured clerk. He was promoted to post manager at Nelson Forks, at the junction of the Liard and Fort Nelson rivers. He and his wife Kay were married there in 1941. Two years later, John Wood became the HBC post manager at Fort Selkirk. When the Woods arrived, the post was in its decline and the trappers were moving out. They had a young son but life was quiet so Kay would go down to an old hotel that was bring wrecked and help pull out nails. She found a 1901 hotel register for the Cold Spring Road House in the walls.((George Inglis, "Yukon Days." //The Islander,// 13 July 1980.))
