Arne Anderson

Arne Andersen's love of cross country and alpine skiing allowed him to spend countless hours creating a ski hill and ski jump near the Whitehorse General Hospital. He spent many volunteer hours coordinating competitions and instructing young skiers to ski. He represented Canada and Yukon in competitions in Fairbanks, Anchorage, and Whitehorse. In 1948, he won the grand aggregate championship for jumping, cross country skiing, and giant slalom in an international meet in Alaska. Arne was offered a ski instructor's position in Sun Valley, California but he chose to remain in Whitehorse. Arne Andersen was inducted into the Sport Yukon Hall of Fame in 1981 for promoting skiing in the Yukon during the 1940s.1)
