Mabel Brewster, nee Hedemark (1935-2015)

Mabel Brewster was born in Lacombe, Alberta to Martin and Gunvor Hedemark. She was raised on the family farm with her two sisters. She worked as a bank teller in Pincher Creek before going to work at the Q Ranch. She met and married Arthur Brewster in the Banff area in 1957. They came north in 1959 to help Bill Brewster in his outfitting area. Mabel started Yukon Trail Riding in the late 1960s and operated it until her retirement in 2004. She also worked twenty-two years maintaining the Pine Lake Campground.1)

Brewster inspired many young Yukoners with a love of farming. Her garden and greenhouse were a source of envy. She grew amazing hay and oat crops and did most of it on her own. She was a single mom and grandma. She was a hunting guide, outfitter, and a trick rider.2) Scatter my Ashes In the Fields Up Top is a portrait of Mabel Brewster written in 2018 by her close friend Elizabeth Weigand.3)
