Michael Byrnes

Michael Byrnes was a miner in the Cassiar region. In 1867, he was employed by the Western Union Telegraph and reached a lake he called Taku but was more likely Atlin Lake. The Western Union Telegraph parties explored the Taku River and the low passes connected to it. Byrnes may be the first European explorer to reach that part of the Yukon basin.¹⁾
