J. C. Cadenhead

J. C. Cadenhead was a Dominion Land Surveyor in Dawson in 1898. He left town with a party of men on September 12th to make a track survey of the Indian River. He fell ill and returned to Dawson on his own, starting out on October 25th. He attempted to cross the Klondike River ice near the mouth but dropped through and was unable to climb out even though his pack kept his head and shoulders above the ice. After he was found, the ice was solid around him and he had to be cut loose. His notes and accounts had been thrown some distance away, showing his desire to preserve them from destruction.1)
