Marie Cox, nee Jacobsen (1935 - 2025)

Marie Jacobsen was born in Rabbit Lake, Saskatchewan, one of six children and the only girl. She married Don Cox of Turtleford, Saskatchewan in 1960 and they moved to Watson Lake in 1963. Marie worked as the receptionist at the Watson Lake Cottage Hospital, and later at the Watson Lake General Hospital. The family moved to Whitehorse in 1980 where Marie worked for Whitehorse Medical Services. She moved on to work at Erik Nielsen's constituency office in the Horwoods Mall. After the Conservatives were voted out, Marie and Don started a mining operation on the Indian River. Marie stayed in camp for the summers and she and Don mined on the weekends. Marie stayed heavily involved with the Conservative Party and the Yukon Party and served as an important figure in election campaigns. In 2012, she received the Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for her tireless efforts in volunteering.1)
