Wilfred Bernard Carter (1950 – 2024)

Wilf Carter was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.1) He worked in places across Canada in forestry, commerce and project management. He met and married his wife Donna, nee Mitchell in the west, and they raised three children. In the Yukon, Wilf worked as the chief administrative officer in Teslin, and director of housing for Champagne and Aishihik First Nations.2)

Wilf Carter ran twice as a candidate for mayor of Whitehorse, both times running against Dan Curtis. In 2015, Cater had 835 votes compared to incumbent Curtis with 4,640. Carter ran again in 2018 on a platform of fiscal responsibility, highlighting a $500,000 development incentive given to NVD’s waterfront condo development, and a promise of an efficiency audit of the city administration. Carter was a strong advocate for an electric bus system versus the current system that had gas busses running all night in the cold of the winter.3) In this election, Carter won a distant fourth place behind re-elected Mayor Curtis.4)
