Donald Chester Davis (d. 1917)

Donald Chester Davis was born in Fort MacLeod, Alberta and was raised there and in Dawson.1) He was a messenger with the Northern District Telegraph in Dawson in 1905.2) He attended the Dawson Public School and graduated in 1907. He enlisted for service in the First World War and in 1915 was a captain in the Strathcona Horse.3) He was deployed to France in May 1915 and was promoted to Acting Captain in June.4) He did trench duty at the front for three months in 1915.5) He was wounded near Messines in December 1915 and in May 1916 was invalided back to Canada. He recovered enough to teach in Winnipeg before he died during a surgery related to his battle injuries. He was awarded the British War Medal and Allied Victory Medal. Captain Davis is buried in Union Cemetery in Fort MacLeod, Alberta.6)
