Edward Theodore Demchuk (1933 – 2024)

Ed Demchuck was born in Edmonton, Alberta and grew up in Vegreville. He was an avid hockey player as a youth and played juniors in Lethbridge. Ed graduated with a pharmacy degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1964 and took his young family to Whitehorse where he was a staff pharmacist at the Kee Bird Drugstore on Main Street. In 1972, He became the franchise owner of the Shoppers Drug Mart at the same location, and the business thrived over the next twenty-five years. He invested in the community, including in the construction of the overhead walkway on Third Avenue. During the 1960s and ‘70s, Ed played for 918 Construction and the Canucks in the Whitehorse Senior Hockey League. He liked golfing and loved to travel, and he retired to Courtenay, British Columbia around 2015.1)
